Orenda is the supernatural force believed by the Iroquois Indians to be present, in varying degrees, in all objects or persons, and to be the spiritual force by which human accomplishment is attained or accounted for.
About the Music:
I had the good fortune to join a drum circle in an abandoned and repurposed quarry in Portland CT. It was an amazing experience watching the night enfold in a very mystical surrounding. I played the Turkish Doumbek and as the drums and the darkness enveloped us, I stepped up and soloed in the dark by the bonfire on my Native American Flutes.
I was able to capture some of the drum grooves which the tune is based on. There are four different loops I created from a simple recording I made on the iPhone. I picked an ambient approach to the arrangement: heavy on the synth pads and repetitive reoccurring motifs throughout. The Native American Flute featured is the A minor double flute.
Quarry View - Portland, CT
Quarry View is a very special place. The owners Dean and Darlene have done an amazing job of not only restoring a neglected yet important historical site; they have also reverently transformed it into a spiritual retreat to connect with nature.
