For One Great Peace

Music by Rich Coffey - Lyrics by Shirley Erena Murray

This thread I weave, this step I dance
This stone I carve, this ball I bounce
This nail I drive, this pearl I string
This flag I wave, this note I sing.

This pot I shape, this fire I lit
This fence I leap, this shawl I knit
This seed I nurse, this rift I mend
This child I raise, this earth I tend.

One small part... One small place
One heart beats... For one great peace
One small part... One small place
My heart beats... For one great peace.

This check I write, this march I join
This faith I state, this truth I sign
This one small part, in one small place
My heart will beat, for one great peace.

One small part... One small place
One heart beats... For one great peace
One small part... One small place
My heart beats... For one great peace.

"[The aim of this poetry] is to express the ultimate importance of every positive action, however small, to create a universal peace."
- Shirley Erena Murray

About the Music
I found these lovely lyrics1 in a Methodist Hymnal while at church and stashed them thinking it might make a nice song. On Friday (April 17th, 2026), I sat down at the piano and—like magic—the melody and chords just came to me in a flash! It was remixed on Sunday, April 26th,
