For Pleasure

consumerism....

Gas is high and ya wonder why
But still selfishly ya drive an SUV
"We're in a boom, so baby let's consume..."
Just fill it up we'll drink and drain the cup

Credit cards jacked to the max
Make up the cash she knows she lacks
But if and when the bubble bursts
At handout time she'll be the first...

For pleasure we measure our treasure
A possession obsession regression
We walk a fine line, in quick time, a sure sign
Steal or borrow there'll be sorrow come tomorrow

Not at home? wanna use the phone?
It jus' can't wait... you must communicate!
No matter where you'll be... no need for privacy
Jus' pull it out... go ahead scream and shout!

If the bottom line doesn't look so fine
If you're the biggest suit a golden parachute
But while the CEO's are gettin' all the dough
Those toilin' on the floor are gettin' shown the door!

For pleasure we measure our treasure
A possession obsession regression
We walk a fine line, in quick time, a sure sign
Steal or borrow there'll be sorrow come tomorrow

Rage all around us building up each day
Sorrow and frustration... does it have to end this way?
Counting dollars... shouting hype... sliced and diced to soundbyte size
Can we stop this frenzied madness and pull the wool out from our eyes?

Comments:
Written ages ago and posted in a looped truncated version as an Anetune (a Flash-authored multimedia visual on my other site), For Pleasure has a catchy hook and features a pseudo rap back and forth between two voices (left and right channels). It was purposely raunchy and written as a scathing commentary on the hypocritical behavior so prevalent in our materialistic consumer-oriented society. The Oberheim Matrix-6 is featured on the searing synth solo.
