Little Green Valley
Written by Carson J. Robison
"And by a little babbling brook, once more we'll wander
And in a shady nook, we'll dream the hours away
And I will leave all my cares behind
Go where I know I'll find sunshine
Back to that little old green valley far away"
Since I had recently bought an Irish Penney Whistle, I thought it would be fun to write an Irish jig to feature it. Heck "Coffey" is an Irish name so it's about time, eh? What could be more appropriate for Ireland than scenes of a lush green valleys!? I couldn’t locate a quote that I liked to represent this tune but an old country song written back in 1928 seemed to be the best match!
In addition to the Penneywhistle, this 6/8 Irish Jig has a "fiddle." The second solo is a psuedo-fiddle played on a solo violin patch on my Roland D-50. The acoustic guitar is of course the Roland JV-880 and the percussion is a mixture of frame drums (to emulate the Celtic Bodhran) and drum kit.
Carson Jay Robison (1890 - 1957) was an American country music singer and songwriter. Marty Robbins had a hit with Little Green Valley in 1959.
