Didgeridoo

About the Didgeridoo

The didgeridoo is considered one of the world's oldest musical instruments. It was developed by Aboriginal peoples of northern Australia thusands of years ago, and is now in use around the world, though still most strongly associated with Indigenous Australian music. In a traditional context, the didgeridoo is played in ceremonial ritual to accompany singing and dancing. Today, playing styles embrace a wide range from slow meditative drones creating wonderful ambient music to fast, percussive, dance rhythms.

Beatbox Didgeridoo

Did you know there is a large sub-culture devoted to didgeridoo beatbox grooves? There was even a competition in France where players improvised hip hop grooves on the fly! Its fascinating how really good the didgeridoo sounds in this context.

Contemporary Didgeridoo Artists

There are quite a few new didgeridoo performers - many times they may pair with other instruments such as handpan, drumkit, santur, etc.

My favorite: "Adèle & Zalem"
